HC Deb 26 November 1951 vol 494 cc102-3W
57. Mr. Reeves

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will give the particulars of the present number of officials and staff at the British Embassies in Paris and Rome with details of the annual expenditure for salaries, compared with numbers and expenditure in 1938.

Mr. Nutting

Full details of the estimates of staff and expenditure at the British Embassies at Paris and Rome in 1938–39 and 1950–51 will be found in Annex 5 the Seventh Report of the Select Committee on Estimates, which examined the Foreign Service earlier this year.

Since the estimates for 1950–51 were drawn up the staffs for which the Foreign Office are responsible at these posts have been cut by 29 and 27 respectively.
