HC Deb 10 May 1951 vol 487 cc247-8W
Mr. Vane

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer under what conditions a resident in this country wishing to buy a farm in Canada at a cost of approximately £5,000 and to emigrate may effect the transfer of the purchase money.

Mr. J. Edwards

The amount which any emigrant to Canada may transfer is limited to £1,000 in the first four years. Normally transfer is spread over that period, but if an emigrant needs the money for some special purpose such as making a down-payment towards the purchase of a house or farm, he may apply for permission to transfer the whole £1,000 at once. At the end of the four-year period income from any assets in this country can be transferred.
