Macphersonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what instructions he has given to His Majesty's Ambassador in Washington in regard to the presentation in the United States of America of British policy for trade with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and China and for replying to propaganda such as that of which a transcript has been sent to him.

§ Mr. YoungerHis Majesty's Ambassador in Washington is kept fully informed about the policy of His Majesty's Government in respect of trade with the Sovietbloc and China; and the British Information Service in the United States do their best to get wide publicity for it. In the case of the critical article which the hon. Member sent me, it so happens that a reply written by Mr. Paul Bareau of the "Economist" was published by the newspaper shortly after the appearance of the original criticisms.
