HC Deb 03 May 1951 vol 487 cc156-7W
71. Mr. Scott

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps he proposes to take to prevent any substantial rise in the price of fertilisers in the near future.

Sir H. Shawcross

The removal of the fertiliser subsidy on 1st July next, together with a considerable increase in the cost of imports and freights and some increase in costs within the United Kingdom, will inevitably mean a substantial rise in the price of fertilisers. Since the prices of most fertilisers are controlled, it is hoped to keep these within justifiable limits.
