HC Deb 03 May 1951 vol 487 cc154-5W
Mr. Bevins

asked the Minister of Labour whether he proposes to take any action to remedy the shortage of factory inspectors as referred to in the Report of the Chief Inspector of Factories for 1949.

Mr. Robens

As a result of the autumn, 1950, competition, the vacancies in the authorised strength of the factory inspectorate should be reduced by 16, when all the successful candidates take up duty. It is hoped to reduce considerably the remaining vacancies by two further competitions which are being held this year. One competition is already in progress.
