HC Deb 21 March 1951 vol 485 cc304-5W
124. Mr. Teeling

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the present difficult position of this country concerning our importation of sulphur, he has taken steps to obtain supplies from Spain, in view of the fact that Rio Tinto Mines, in Spain, owned by a company in this country, produces much of the required sulphur.

Mr. Rhodes

Spain has no crude sulphur available but sulphur bearing ore in the form of pyrites is mined by the Rio Tinto Company. We are receiving from Spain sufficient pyrites to maintain in full production our sulphuric acid plants which are designed to operate on this material.
