§ 122. Mr. Patonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will issue a standing order to all Government Departments instructing them, when engaging temporary workers for such occasional purposes as taking a census, acting as poll clerks in a general election or local elections, issuing new ration books, etc., to make full use of the employment exchanges and to seek alternative sources of supply only when suitable workers are not available at the exchanges.
§ Mr. JayStanding instructions already provide that all vacancies for temporary staff in Government Departments must be reported to the appropriate department of the Ministry of Labour and National Service. I understand that specific instructions to the same effect are also issued by the responsible Departments in connection with the engagement of staff for the purposes referred to by my hon. Friend. In engaging such staff local conditions and the qualifications required for particular duties have of course to be taken into account.
