HC Deb 20 March 1951 vol 485 c249W
3. Mr. Marples

asked the Minister of Local Government and Planning when he proposes to publish plans for a three-bedroomed house costing less than£1,000.

Mr. Dalton

As I stated in reply to Questions last Tuesday, my advisers and I have been studying various plans which have recently been prepared and I hope soon to issue a circular to local authorities on the designs of council houses, seeking to combine economy with the maintenance of essential standards.

10. Mr. Renton

asked the Minister of Local Government and Planning whether he is aware that local housing authorities, in nearly all cases, decline to allocate council houses to families in which there are six or more children, on the ground that to do so would lead to over-crowding; and if he will issue a circular for the guidance of local authorities with a view to ensuring that families with many children receive the accommodation which they require.

Mr. Dalton

No such case has been reported to me. Local authorities provide houses to meet the needs of families of all sizes and seek to arrange transfers of tenancies in appropriate cases.
