§ Mr. Heathasked the Minister of Education what higher education, or other grants, are available for men wishing to train as merchant marine radio officers; and how many grants have been made by his Department for this purpose over each of the last five years.
§ Mr. TomlinsonDuring the last few years my Department has made grants to ex-Service men under the Further Education and Training Scheme for courses in radio engineering and, as a permanent arrangement, local education authorities have power to make similar grants. I cannot say how many grants have been or are being given for these courses which are, in any case, not restricted to persons intending to enter the Merchant Navy.
