§ 107. Mr. Arbuthnot
asked the Minister of Education what are the grounds for the discrimination in the matter of free replacements of spectacles for children attending schools maintained by local education authorities, and other children.
§ Mr. Tomlinson
The cost of repairing or replacing standard type glasses is met by the National Health Service unless there has been carelessness or negligence. 321W Where the cost cannot be met by the National Health Service, local education authorities meet it on behalf of pupils attending schools maintained by them as part of their statutory duty to secure the provision of free medical treatment for such pupils.
