HC Deb 22 June 1951 vol 489 cc91-2W
Mr. Yates

asked the Minister of Pensions how many patients are awaiting admission to the female ward for spinal injuries at his Department's hospital, Stoke Mandeville; how many beds are available; and what steps are being taken to increase the accommodation.

Mr. Isaacs:

Sixty-five patients are awaiting admission to the female ward of the spinal injuries unit at Stoke Mandeville. There are 15 beds available in the ward and all are occupied. The period of rehabilitation is prolonged. Increased accommodation is dependent on the recruitment of additional nurses and constant efforts have been and are being made to obtain them.

Mr. Yates

asked the Minister of Pensions if he is aware that Miss Irene McGregor, 2/20 Coplow Street, Lady-wood, Birmingham, has been awaiting admission to his Department's hospital, Stoke Mandeville, for more than two years; and when she is likely to be admitted to the hospital.

Mr. Isaacs:

I much regret the delay, but as my Parliamentary Secretary explained to the hon. Member in a letter on 25th April last vacancies are infrequent and Miss McGregor will be admitted at the earliest possible date.
