HC Deb 21 June 1951 vol 489 c87W
Mr. Langford-Holt

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty why Barracuda aircraft which began to go out of use for operational use in 1944 are still being used in fleet aircraft carriers.

Mr. Callaghan

One front line squadron of Barracudas is still in service. It will be withdrawn later this year and re-armed with Fireflies Mark 7. Normally the squadron is based ashore at the naval Anti-Submarine School, but occasionally it is embarked for short periods for exercises with the Fleet. At the moment, it is afloat in H.M.S. "Indomitable" but will be coming ashore again in a few days' time.
