Robertsonasked the Minister of Transport if he has considered the letters from the hon Member for Caithness and Sutherland on the urgent need for a lighthouse on Strathy Point and the letter from the Commissioners for Northern Lighthouses referring to their unsuccessful efforts over a long period to have a lighthouse established there and the persistent refusal of the Department concerned to find the money; and if he will now grant the necessary funds.
§ Mr. BarnesI understand that the history of this proposal is as follows. The Commissioners of Northern Lighthouses put forward proposals for a lighthouse at Strathy Point on several occasions, the last being in 1934 to the Board of Trade, when the proposal was turned down on the grounds that such a light was not necessary in the interests of general navigation. 17W If this question is to be re-opened it is the responsibility of the Commissioners of Northern Lighthouses to put forward fresh proposals.
