HC Deb 26 February 1951 vol 484 cc260-1W
Mr. Boardman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the current value of 26s. and 42s., respectively, as compared with October, 1946.

Mr. Jay

I assume my hon. Friend refers to value in terms of purchasing power over goods and services. About 22s. 2d. and 35s. 10d., respectively, calculated on the figure for January, 1951, on the official Index of Retail Prices introduced in June, 1947, and the previous cost-of-living index.
