§ 59. Mr. Doddsasked the Minister of Food if he is yet able to announce a relaxation of his regulations in respect to the sale of sweets and chocolates in new shops.
206W
§ Mr. WebbI am glad to say that, in view of improved supplies of chocolate and sweets, we have now been able to make some relaxation in our retail sweets licensing policy. In future, where the opening of a new shop would remove inconvenience to the public, food control committees will be able to take a more liberal view of applications for licences. Supplies are not yet adequate, however, to provide starting stocks for all the people who would like to open sweet shops, and the number of new licences which can be granted must still, I am afraid, be limited.
