§ 58. Mr. F. Longdenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is aware of the considerable concern that arises from the lack of food, clothing and shelter for many of the refugees entering the British zone in Germany; and what improvement is to be expected in this situation.
§ Mr. YoungerI am aware that some concern exists, especially with regard to overcrowding in the holding camps, but the condition of refugees entering the British zone of Germany is, in general, good and has improved further as a result of the remedial measures taken by the Federal German Government with the assistance of German and international welfare societies. In any case, the welfare of these refugees is the concern of the German authorities and no longer a matter for which either the Allied High Commission or His Majesty's Government are responsible.
