HC Deb 05 December 1951 vol 494 c259W
60. Mr. Burden

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will grant pensions to dockyard workers when they reach pensionable age and continue in employment in the dockyards in the public interest.

Mr. Digby

Under Section 20 of the Superannuation Act,1834, the pension of a Civil Service pensioner is suspended in whole or in part whilst he remains employed by a Government Department. This provision applies, of course, to workers in H.M. Dockyards. The Superannuation Act, 1949, however, provides that the service of a civil pensioner reemployed after normal retiring age may, within certain limits, entitle him to a higher pension when he finally retires.
