HC Deb 04 December 1951 vol 494 c207W
Mr. M. MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the plans for water supply in the Isle of Barra; and if he will give dates, or approximate dates, of commencement of these schemes.

Mr. J. Stuart

Two water supply schemes are planned for Barra—the Castlebay scheme at an estimated cost of £61,000 and the Northbay scheme at an estimated cost of £53,000. The county council will undertake the Castlebay scheme which is planned to begin in 1952. I have submitted to the county council proposals under which I shall undertake the Northbay scheme as landlord of a large number of smallholdings and I hope it may be possible to start work towards the end of 1952.
