§ 126. Mrs. Mannasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he has now considered what suggestions he will make to local authorities regarding housing standards; and if he can now indicate what changes he will suggest.
§ Mr. H. MacmillanI would refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Hendon, North (Mr. C. I. Orr-Ewing), and other hon. Members on 27th November. The circulars I have sent to local authorities are in the Vote Office.
§ 143. Mr. Boardmanasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether, in view of his decision to economise in building materials and labour by the production of what he has called, "The People's House," he will give an assurance that the reduced standards he has laid down will not be exceeded in any houses privately built.
§ Mr. H. MacmillanThe hon. Member is under a misapprehension. I have not laid down any reduced standards. I have called the attention of the local authorities to the possibility of obtaining standard results by simpler means.
§ Mr. Blenkinsopasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how far he intends to make payment of housing subsidies to local authorities subject to their adoption of one of the standard designs set out in Circular 70/51.
§ Mr. H. MacmillanI said in Circular 70/51 that I hoped local authorities would adopt the new designs for all two-bedroom and three-bedroom houses not already planned to an advanced stage.
§ Mr. Blenkinsopasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what control he proposes to exercise over the 239W standards of houses to be built under licence on the authority of his Circular 73/51.
§ Mr. H. MacmillanI would refer the hon. Member to paragraph 3 of the Appendix to the Circular.
