HC Deb 03 December 1951 vol 494 cc187-8W
51. Mr. Burden

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can now give an estimate of the number of British-owned cars stolen or destroyed during recent incidents in Egypt, with their value.

Mr. Eden

Six private cars belonging to Royal Air Force personnel and two Royal Air Force welfare buses have been destroyed. Their value is estimated at about £3,500. At least fourteen other cars belonging to Army personnel valued between £250 and £800 each have also been burnt.

52. Mr. Burden

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many cases of violence to British women and children occurred during recent rioting in Egypt; and in how many cases hospital treatment was necessary.

Mr. Eden

Since the beginning of the disturbances one woman and one child, of whom the woman received hospital treatment, have reported injury. There were also on 16th October a number of incidents in which women and children were terrorised and their houses looted during the disturbances in Ismailia, but no physical injuries were caused.
