HC Deb 02 August 1951 vol 491 c231W
60. Mr. N. Macpherson

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that the Cumberland River Board are imposing rod licence charges for fishing the Esk in Scotland without prior consultation with Scottish interests concerned; and what steps he will take to safeguard Scottish interests.

Mr. Champion

I understand that the Cumberland River Board are considering the duties to be charged for fishery licences in their area, which for fishery purposes includes the whole of the river Esk and its tributaries. The duties proposed will shortly be advertised in the local Press, and will require my approval before they can become effective. All the interests concerned will have a full opportunity to state their objections.
