HC Deb 02 August 1951 vol 491 c243W
87. Mr. Morley

asked the Minister of Education if his attention has been drawn to the fact that certain education committees are charging interest on loans to students; and if he will introduce legislation to prevent this practice.

Mr. Tomlinson

So far as I am aware only two local education authorities in the academic year 1949–50 made new loans to students subject to the payment of interest. Local authorities are well aware of my views in regard to loans to students generally, and I do not think it necessary to introduce legislation on this matter.
