HC Deb 02 August 1951 vol 491 c218W
Mr. Watkins

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the ceiling price of police houses; what is the price agreed to for houses to be erected by the Mid-Wales Police Authority; and why this authority has been permitted to erect houses at such high cost compared with that of local authority houses or houses erected under private licence within the same area.

Mr. Ede

Offices, garages and other buildings are frequently included in the price of police houses and since circumstances vary from case to case it would not he practicable to have a ceiling price for police houses generally or a standard price for any particular police authority. The costs of building police houses are related to those of local authority housing, so far as practicable, but in view of the special requirements in police cases no direct comparison of overall expenditure can usefully be made.
