§ 56. Mr. Wyattasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why it is proposed to close down the digest magazine "Echo" although it is largely self-supporting and has a wide circulation in Italy, France and Holland.
§ Mr. YoungerThe average monthly circulation of these magazines during the last quarter of 1950 was 61,711. A saving of about £20,000 a year will be achieved by their discontinuance; in other words, we are losing 6½d. on each copy. We are obliged by the pressing need for economy to do without means of publicity which are expensive in relation to the results achieved; and the "Echo" series is one of these.
