HC Deb 12 April 1951 vol 486 cc108-10W
Mr. Llewellyn

asked the Prime Minister (1) when he anticipates that he will be in a position to make a statement giving the Government's decision concerning the recommendation of the Council for Wales and Monmouthshire that Cardiff should be the capital city of Wales;

(2) when he proposes to consult with the Welsh Parliamentary Party concerning the recommendation of the Council for Wales and Monmouthshire that Cardiff should be the capital city of Wales; and why no such consultations have been made hitherto.

The Prime Minister

It would be premature to make a statement on this subject until there has been sufficient time for Welsh opinion to express itself, and of course the Council for Wales and Monmouthshire only made their recommendation on 3rd April. I hope that the consultations with the Welsh Parliamentary Party will take place shortly.
