HC Deb 02 November 1950 vol 480 cc5-6W
Mr. Nally

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement as to the anticipated effects of present raw wool prices upon the general clothing and domestic textile goods prices in the United Kingdom in 1951; and what action he is taking, particularly in relation to children's clothing, to mitigate the effects of major price increases upon the families at small income levels.

Mr. H. Wilson

It is too early to say what effect the present prices of raw wool, if maintained, will have upon the retail prices of clothing and domestic textile goods in the year 1951. As regards the second part of the Question, we are, of course, continuing to exercise price control, and I propose to arrange for full discussion with the industries concerned with a view to seeing what can be done to minimise the effects on consumers of the recent rises in raw wool prices.
