§ Mr. EdeThe present strength of the Metropolitan Special Constabulary is 3,239 men and 17 women; the establishment provisionally authorised is 10,564274W men and 100 women. No record has been kept of the numbers of possible recruits who have telephoned for information or visited police stations but 37 written applications have been rejected because the applicants were under 30.
