58. Mr. Vaneasked the Minister of Agriculture what representations he has received with regard to the present method of marking the ears of calves in respect of which calf subsidy is payable; and what alternatives have been suggested.
Mr. T. WilliamsI have received representations from the National Cattle Breeders' Association, the Red Poll Cattle Society and a number of private owners, who have suggested the following alternatives:
- (1) The use of an instrument making a hole⅜in. instead of ½in diameter.
- (2) The use of tattoo marks.
- (3) The acceptance of breed society markings as identifying marks for the purposes of the calf subsidy.
