§ Mr. StokesThe intake of apprentices into the building industry in the 12 months ending 1st August, 1949, was about 23,000 and the total of apprentices undergoing training was then about 83,000. These are the latest available figures. There is no precise information of the intake of apprentices in the earlier years, but the following approximate numbers of boys under the age of 18 entered the industry with the intention of learning crafts:
