Air-Commodore Harveyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make available sufficient United States currency to British businessmen visiting the United States of America to enable them to hire " drive-yourself " motor cars to facilitate their business in connection with the export drive.
§ Mr. GaitskellUnited Kingdom residents travelling abroad on business are allotted foreign currency on a basis which takes account of all reasonable expendi-226W ture likely to be incurred. The use of such foreign exchange for hiring cars is in no way restricted. Businessmen who have to do an exceptional amount of travelling which cannot be paid for in sterling in advance, may apply for additional foreign currency and in appropriate circumstances this would be granted for the hire of " drive-yourself " motor cars or other suitable means of transport
