§ Mr. EdeThe particulars I gave in answer to a supplementary question asked by the hon. Member on 9th March were those of offences of armed robbery and robbery with violence known to the police in England and Wales and had been obtained from a special scrutiny of the statistical returns submitted to the Home Office by the Police. Separate particulars of these offences and of the comparatively small number of other offences for which corporal punishment could have been awarded against adults up to 13th September, 1948, are not included in the published criminal statistics.
