§ Dr. Broughtonasked the Minister of Supply what steps he is taking to increase the manufacture of the necessary pipes in order to speed the distribution of piped water to rural areas.
§ Mr. G. R. StraussNew capacity for steel pipes for water and gas was installed at the end of 1948, and production is now double that of two years ago. A further scheme of expansion has been approved and the plant should come into 65W operation in 1953. Substantial increase in production of cast iron pipes for water and gas depends on obtaining additional labour to run the existing plants to full capacity. Every endeavour is being made to increase the labour force in this industry.
