§ 73 and 74. Major McCallumasked the Minister of Transport (1) if, in view of the withdrawal of the services provided by the Clyde and Campbeltown Shipping Company and the resultant increased road traffic between Campbeltown and Lochgilphead, he will reconsider sympathetically the application of Argyll County Council to have the road, A.83, scheduled as a trunk road;
(2) if he is aware of the bad condition of sections of A.83 between Lochgilphead and Campbeltown; and whether he will give priority to the execution of the necessary roadworks in view of the fact that they are already scheduled under the Crofter County Scheme.
§ Mr. BarnesI am unable to agree that the additional road traffic resulting from the withdrawal of the steamship services justifies scheduling Route A.83 between Campbeltown and Lochgilphead as a trunk road. About half the total length of 52 miles has already been reconstructed at the expense of the Road Fund. It is proposed to reconstruct 10 more miles north of Campbeltown when funds permit, but it is not possible to give this expensive work priority at the present time.
