§ 80. Mr. Astorasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what progress has been made in the negotiations between the Customs and glove manufacturers concerning the definition of industrial gloves for Purchase Tax purposes.
§ Mr. JayIt has still not been found possible to devise a satisfactory definition for the purpose of exempting industrial gloves as such. Representations that the rate of tax on all sheepskin gloves should be reduced from 100 per cent. to 33⅓ per cent. have been received and are being considered. I cannot say at this stage what the result will be.
