§ 117. Sir R. Aclandasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how much public money has been spent in any recent period for which figures are available; and how many men are working, on experiments undertaken or supported by the Government and aimed at discovering means of overcoming the diseases which attack cattle in Africa.
§ Mr. J. Griffiths£146,865 were issued from Colonial Development and Welfare Research Funds during 1949–50 for veterinary projects to assist in overcoming the African cattle diseases. There are 42 posts of Veterinary Research Officers in Africa, with numerous subordinate staff, and laboratory accommodation. In addition there is considerable expenditure on Veterinary Departments, much of whose work is directly or indirectly devoted to these purposes.
