Mr. Marloweasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what information has been received by His Majesty's Government from the French Government as to the nature, functions and powers of the supra-national authority proposed by M. Schuman; and whether the speech of the Secretary of State for War at Colchester on 1st July represents Government policy in this matter.
§ Mr. Ernest DaviesThe French Government has communicated to His Majesty's Government a document drawn up by its experts to facilitate the preparation of a draft Treaty implementing the proposals put forward by M. Schuman on 9th May. This document is under discussion at the Paris Conference. As60W it was given to us in confidence, I regret that I am not in a position to reveal its full contents. I presume however that the hon. Member will have read the summary of the document issued by M. Monnet last week and reported in the Press at the time. As regards the second part of the Question, I would refer to the replies given by the Prime Minister, to which I have nothing to add.
