§ 61. Commander Nobleasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that the 66⅔ per cent. Purchase Tax on gas water heaters prevents certain gas boards from hiring out new 133W heaters for fear of not being able to recover the Purchase Tax they have had to pay; and whether he will reconsider this matter.
§ Mr. GaitskellI am not aware that the Purchase Tax has the effect mentioned in the first part of the hon. and gallant Member's Question, but I will have inquiries made. As to the second part of the Question, I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Derbyshire, West (Mr. E. Wakefield), on 24th October last.
