9. Mr. Teeingasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will give an assurance that compensation to holders of sterling Japanese bonds for the period of the last war are included in the proposal for a Peace Treaty with Japan now being discussed amongst the Allies.
§ Mr. Ernest DaviesI am not yet in a position to make any statement about the discussions on a Japanese Peace Treaty which are proceeding at New York. I can, however, assure the hon. Member that His Majesty's Government have the whole question of Japan's pre-war debts and her obligations in respect of her sterling loans very much in mind.
