§ 90. Captain Ryderasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty how many fleet and light fleet carriers are in commission with special complements; upon what duties are they engaged and how many of them could be made instantly available for flying operations.
§ Mr. CallaghanTwo fleet carriers and three light fleet carriers are in commission with special complements. One of the fleet carriers is normally employed as trials and training carrier, but is at present refitting, and the other is in the Home Fleet training squadron. Two of the light fleet carriers are engaged on trooping duties, and the third, which has recently returned from the Far East, is refitting. One of the fleet carriers and two of the light fleet carriers could be made available for flying operations at short notice.
