HC Deb 04 December 1950 vol 482 cc18-9W
113. Mr. Philips Price

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is yet in a position to give any information about the fuel efficiency drive.

Mr. P. Noel-Baker

A series of conferences is being arranged throughout the the country, to promote increased economy and efficiency in the consumption of fuel and power. Twelve additional mobile testing units of a modified type will be made available as quickly as possible. More technicians will be engaged to give advice to industry on fuel efficiency. More stoker demonstrators are being engaged. The importance of improved domestic grates and stoves is being drawn to the attention of householders and others by the Coal Utilisation Joint Council and the Women's Advisory Council on Solid Fuel. The big savings to be made by the insulation of dwelling-houses and industrial buildings has been impressed on the National Production Advisory Council on Industry, on Regional Boards for Industry, and on local authorities. I am urgently considering further measures to intensify the drive.
