HC Deb 01 December 1950 vol 481 c182W
Mr. Hastings

asked the Minister of Health what is the number of beds reserved for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis in sanatoria, general hospitals and fever hospitals, respectively, which are now empty because of shortage of nursing and domestic staff.

Mr. Hastings

asked the Minister of Health what is the number of beds at present reserved for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis in sanatoria, general hospitals and fever hospitals., respectively.

Mr. Bevan

The number of tuberculosis beds provided in institutions classed as sanatoria and tuberculosis hospitals is about 27,700, of which about 4,400 are unstaffed. There are some 3,500 staffed tuberculosis beds in other hospitals. Of the 31,200 staffed beds approximately 27,200 are for pulmonary and 4,000 for non-pulmonary tuberculosis.
