Smithersasked the Minister of Food how many sheep carcases imported by his Department from Holland, on or about 26th September, were condemned at Smithfield Market; how many carcases were involved; what was the cost to the taxpayer; who was to blame; and what disciplinary action has been taken against those concerned.
§ Mr. StracheyThe shipment consisted of 2,067 carcases 55 tons, of which about 1,850 carcases, were condemned. As I told the hon. Member for Bury St. Edmunds (Lieut.-Colonel Clifton-Brown) on 19th October, the matter is still under investigation by the Royal Netherlands Government and my Department.
