HC Deb 09 November 1949 vol 469 c127W
Mr. Baker White

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the cost of the special publicity and advertising campaign conducted in connection with National Savings Week, including the cost of special ceremonies and demonstrations; and what was the net gain in National Savings in the week ended 30th October.

Sir S. Cripps

Approximately £100,000. Details of net savings during the National Savings Week are not yet available but will, for the most part, be included in the weekly figures published on 13th November next. It would, of course, be wholly misleading to relate the cost of the special publicity to the net savings made during that week only. The effect will be felt in the most valuable work done by the National Savings movement throughout the coming 12 months.
