§ Major Gatesasked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that certain firms are taking advantage of the announcements of births in the columns of the Press to obtain addresses to which they send unsolicited and fully illustrated circulars advertising commercial methods of birth control, which cause distress and indignation to parents; and whether, in view of the fact that qualified medical advice on this subject is freely available, 118W he will see that His Majesty's mails are not used for this purpose.
§ Mr. Wilfred PalingI am aware that circulars relating to these matters are sent through the post and that complaints occasionally arise. The transmission by post of packets which are indecent or obscene is already prohibited. If the hon. and gallant Member considers that the circulars he has in mind fall within this category, I shall be pleased to look into the matter if he will let me have details.
