§ 72. Mr. Parkerasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what progress has been made in African land settlement in Swaziland during the last three years.
§ Mr. P. Noel-BakerWith the aid of funds provided under the Colonial Development and Welfare Act, valuable work has been done in Swaziland, not only in the settlement of landless families but also in teaching these families how to use their land and to manage their animals. During the past three years, about 500 families have been settled in the three areas which are now being developed. The present schemes provide for a thousand families more, and farms for 500 of them have been surveyed.
