HC Deb 09 March 1949 vol 462 c122W
75. Mr. C. S. Taylor

asked the Postmaster-General how many persons in his Department are employed as salesmen for the telephone services; and how much has been spent during the last 12 months on advertising the telephone services in order to attract new subscribers.

Mr. Hobson

No officers are employed and no money is spent on trying to attract applications for telephone service. Three hundred and forty-two officers are at present employed on visiting applicants for service and subscribers who have asked for their existing telephone apparatus to be modified, in order to ascertain their precise requirements and to advise them on the most appropriate type of equipment that could be installed.
