§ 64. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to state the decline in cases of corporal punishment inflicted in Nigerian prisons during the past 10 years; and what effect this has had on discipline.
Mr. Creech JonesThe number of such cases in 1947 was about one-third less than in 1938. There is no evidence to show that the reduction in corporal punishment has had a bad effect on prison discipline.
