§ Mr. Jannerasked the Minister of Transport if he will confer with the Chancellor of the Exchequer to secure an increased allocation of funds for road maintenance and repair in view of the fact that road accidents are increasing at a disturbing rate, in spite of the intense and skilfully conducted Safety First activities, due to the prevalence of extensive areas of distorted and dangerous road surfaces that have accumulated from the enforced neglect of road maintenance during the last 10 years.
§ Mr. BarnesI sympathise with my hon. Friend's desire to see more money spent on road maintenance but I have no evidence yet that the number of accidents attributed to road conditions is increasing.
