HC Deb 25 July 1949 vol 467 c98W
Mr. J. L. Williams

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has considered the request from the Scottish Light Clothing Manufacturers' Association for a separate Scottish committee for the clothing industry; and if he will consider the matter further.

Mr. H. Wilson

I have given careful consideration to this request, but I do not consider that it is necessary or desirable to make specific provisions for such a committee in the Order setting up a Development Council. The Development Council would, however, have power to establish a separate committee for Scottish affairs, if it thought that this course was desirable. No new facts have been brought forward which make a further consideration of the matter necessary.
