Mr. Odeyasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is prepared to make a grant to the Army Cadet Force to maintain the non-military side of their activities such as training in citizenship, sport and club amenities and general welfare, the cost of which is at present falling, by means of voluntary contributions, largely upon the boys and their parents.

§ Mr. ShinwellThe responsibility for ensuring that suitable recreational, social and physical training facilities are available to the youth of the country, including members of the Army Cadet Force, rests by statute upon the local education authority under the Ministry of Education. Army assistance must, therefore, be confined to that necessary for efficient pre-service training.
